P.R.A.Y. – Model for Personal Devotions
We are inviting you to join the Bible Reading Plan at Saalem church. In following the reading plan, we highly recommend incorporating the P.R.A.Y. model below:
In an effort to help everyone get the most of their daily reading, we put together the acronym P.R.A.Y. (Pray-Read-Apply-Yield).
Prior to reading the Bible, invite the Holy Spirit to open the Word to you. Ask God to point out things that would be most useful for you today.
Simply read the daily passage of your Bible Reading Plan.
After reading the text, look up the verses that caught your attention. Asking God to help you, seek to apply the passage to your personal life.
This is the key to being changed. It is not enough to discover the truth of the Bible, we need to accept it and act upon it. If the Bible convicts you of something, decide to turn away from it, asking God to forgive you of your sin (repent). If the text challenges you, prayerfully decide on your next steps of action. When the Bible encourages you, seek for more opportunities to do that which it encourages. In everything you learn, keep the attitude of Jesus who said to God the Father, “Not my will, but Your will be done”.
These steps of action form the word PRAY – which is what the personal devotion should be surrounded in. Try the P.R.A.Y. model during your next personal devotion and let us know how it helped you!
