Worship in Spirit and Truth
We are created to worship God. This is a huge statement but it’s true. Looking at the definition of worship itself- a reverent, honor, homage paid to God or any sacred object. If we don’t worship God we’ll worship something. The word worship is mentioned 107 in the King James Version. God has called us out from the wilderness to be a people that worship Him. Worship the Lord! He demands it. He has a right to demand our worship. God wants to be our source of worship. He is our fullness of life. God is calling us to a place to give it all to Him. This is where true worship comes from. When we give it all to God, He blesses us. Is there anything you need to lay on the altar of sacrifice? Put it on the altar, take the knife, and kill it. We don’t need to hold on to anything, He knows us better then we know ourselves. He has an amazing plan for your life. Just put Him as number one.
True worship is becoming a living sacrifice that Paul talks about in Romans 12. The number one worship song is our life, 24/7. Our lives must match up to the songs that we sing. God wants us to be real. Making every decision in accountability to God is worship- and through that it’s easier to approach Him. If we live for Him, worship will come easy. God
True worship is also a knowing of God is. We worship a God that we know. He’s not a distant God. And the more we get to know Him, the more and the stronger we will worship Him. Anyone who truly knows God will worship Him.
God is looking for a true worshipper- an honest, real, and sincere worshiper. The right response to God is to surrender and submit to God. Be fully, completely submitted to Him. Draw near to God with a true, sincere heart. We don’t need to wear masks. He loves us and He wants us to draw near to Him. God is calling us to intimacy. Picture a dog that kisses and licks its master’s hand. This is a picture of true intimacy that the Father desires.
What does it mean to worship in Spirit? It means that we need to come to His level, to release what’s inside of us. Worship comes from the heart. Lifting our hands and singing doesn’t matter as much as what should flow from our innermost being. Life flows from this kind of worship.
Worship in Spirit and truth. This is the kind of worship God desires.
“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.” (John 4:23)
