Worship In the Corporate Gathering
Today I’m going to talk about what it looks like when we as a church get together and worship. Do you ever get tired of singing the same songs over and over? Worship is not so much about the songs as it is about encountering the Lord. It doesn’t matter what you’re singing, when you come with the mindset of being changed is what’s most important. It doesn’t matter so much what you’re singing because He’s there. His presence is new, fresh. The encounter is new. We belong to Jesus, that is our identity. And once we understand that then the songs will start flowing.
What would the church look like if they had the revelation that they were to come ready- that they came connected. It’s up to us to keep the well filled, it’s overflowing, a constant pouring out. I understand that throughout the week there’s stuff that happens that can break the connection. But what if the church fought to maintain that connection, always being aware of that connection. To recognize Him, His presence.
As believers, we can learn to use our senses to discover God. Hebrews says “Having your senses trained to discern good and evil.” This is a continual process in our lives. We can always be growing in the Lord. All of us have room to grow. As soon as we’ve become experts we are no longer teachable. David knew this when he said “My heart and cry out for the Living God. They had a physical appetite for the glory of God in the old testament. And if that was in the old testament, how much more should we experience the Glory of God in the new? He has so much more for us as a church. Learn to recognize His presence, and always be hungry for Him. Your life depends on it, don’t let the fire burn out. So powerful always happens when we come together as a church with the fire of God burning inside of us with a passion for His presence.
There are some challenges to face and I’ll mention a couple of them. First, we get impatient. We can have an awesome conference- experience the glory of God on an intense, real level. Than we get in our week and something happens. We’re not getting the amazing revelations from the word, or something doesn’t look the way we want it to look when God shows up. We have stuff going on in our minds. We have a list of stuff that can try to talk ourselves out of it when what we want doesn’t happen. Keep going! Whether of not we see it, He’s there.
The second one is an offended heart. Maybe God didn’t show up the way you wanted him to. Maybe something happened to you as a child etc. we don’t understand why the bad things happen- why things haven’t healed. We need to realize that we need God more than we need the answers. We need His presence, to be close, to say “God, I want you more than the answers.” Trust me. The walls will come down. It’s an ongoing battle, but choose Him above everything. Be constantly aware of your need for Him.
He loves you. We love Him because He first loved us. Something you can do as an exercise at any time- ask God “What were you thinking when you created me?” Do not take God’s love for granted, don’t let a bad day or a bad morning get in the way of corporate worship. Through Jesus’ sacrifice we can encounter His love. How can we even do “The stuff” as Christians without a love revelationship with Jesus? It is through love that we do those things. That’s revival in a cup! Even when God heals, it’s because of love. He takes care of us because He loves us. God speak your language. And in worship we must learn to recognize how he comes to us as individuals. Every single time we come into His presence, something happens. So let’s all come together with a hunger and passion for Jesus as we worship and go after Him with everything we have.
